About Me

Work

In January 2010 I started working for Vodafone Hutchison Australia as the Team Lead and Experience Architect for a new Mobile Application Team we’ve called Appland.

My role is to develop innovative user experiences and applications for smartphones and implement the team’s strategy and roadmap. I also manage the team on the practical design and coding of the applications, in conjuntion with broader creative, experience and technology teams within VHA. It’s a new and strategically innovative approach for a telco, and I’m very excited to be involved with it from the start.

Prior to VHA, I was the founder and CEO of Moket – an Australian-based Flash mobile development and publishing company that was at the forefront of the business and developer ecosystems for Flash on mobile devices from 2004.

Overall, I have been working in the web / multimedia industry for around 12 years in various capacities, including designer, developer, business owner, manager and trainer. I started using Flash back in 1996, and I began learning my back-end development skills using Alair Cold Fusion 3.1 in 1998. I’ve worked on mobile, web and Flash projects for companies such as St George Bank, Lexus, Rio Tinto, Hutchison 3, Fairfax, Adobe, Suncorp Metway, Warner Bros., Australian Government, Queensland Government, Australian Navy, Flight Centre and Wotif.com.

I am an Adobe Certified Instructor (Flash Lite), Adobe Community Professional (Flash Mobile), Adobe Certified Developer (Flash Lite), Forum Nokia Champion and a former Adobe Usergroup Manager. I am also an Adobe Ambassador for APAC.

I’ve authored and presented video (DVD and online) Flash Lite training for Adobe, Lynda.com and Total Training. I’ve had the opportunity to speak at many conferences and events such as Adobe MAX, webDU, and Nokia Code Camps.

I’m passionate about the mobile platform and the promise it holds for the various groups that interact through it – consumers, businesses, developers – everyone. I’m equally passionate about working with the developer community to engage, educate and inspire wherever I can, through whatever means I can. I’m also keen to make sure that we’re all still having fun!

Personal

tt_link_150x150I’m the husband to the beautiful and talented Tanya, and father to our beautiful daughters Isabella, Olivia and Gabrielle. They are the reason that I get up in the morning.

Prior to being involved in the interactive industry, I was a full-time drummer in a touring band, and have played in dozens of bands over the 25-odd years I have been playing drums. I still play occasionally, and at the moment am part of a surf-blues band called The Five.

I’m also an avid toy and comic collector, and have a website called Toy Tragic that documents much of my addiction to Star Wars, The Phantom, Mighty Muggs, and other various bits of past and present pop culture, comics and toys.
