In this episode I go through some of the various ActionScript techniques for changing and managing application screens, or views, that you might want to use depending on what you’re building (for example prototypes or production applications).
For a little while now I’ve been working on a new video training series for Flash mobile developers, and I’m happy to announce that we’re ready to go with the first episode.
The “Developing with Flash Lite” series covers broad concepts as well as specific how-to code samples and demos, with topics covering beginner, intermediate, experienced and “multi-screen” topics. Some of the topics of upcoming videos include:
Managing screens in mobile applications
Creating Flash mobile content for touch-screen devices
Writing Test Scripts in Device Central CS4
Hooking up applications to external data
Packaging and distribution
Working with multiple resolutions and orientation
Moving from mobile, to desktop and TV with Flash
and many more …
The series has been developed for delivery through Adobe TV and the Mobile and Devices Developer Center, however we’re also loading them up on to Vimeo for further reach (episodes run longer than YouTube’s 10min limit, so they won’t be up there in case you’re wondering). We have around 20 videos planned, with the potential for expansion, so it should hopefully be a great collection of resources for the Flash mobile community.
The first video we have released is “Mobile Workflow in Adobe CS4“ – an introduction for non-mobile developers and designers to the workflow through the Adobe CS4 tools when working with mobile content. Please keep in touch with new videos coming out by:
Hopefully if you’re a Flash Lite developer you know by now that the Online Library in Device Central CS4 contains device profiles that can be updated over the internet (rather than the old way of having to install a patch file). There have been some new profiles added recently, including the Nokia 5800 Music XPress touchscreen device, which will come down to your system the next time the Online Library is updated.
In the Preferences dialogue you can set the Online Library to check for new profiles each time you start Device Central, or else you can manually do an update as well from the actual Online Library panel itself.
